More still life. I love this form. Many of my favorite paintings remain still life. The oldest good oil painting I have (I have a couple not so polished…) is a still life. It’s a teaching form, but works for me.

This was a section from Canyons. I loved the wet-on-wet oil work on Canyons and I wanted to continue it.

This came from reaching back to the watercolor work I did in my teens – cartoony mis=use of watercolor and ink to craft basically brightly colored posters. Stuff to hang on the walls that didn’t cost money I did n’t have but also didn’t drop into the background over time – things you still see after they have been hung up for awhile.

This was never signed or finished, but I learned a lot about abstracted figures. The inspiration was a clay sculpture at the Met, of a crouched human figure.

I wanted a feel for how Picasso deconstructed and illuminated forms. A lot of fun. I love the deconstruction and reimagining of the curves, forms and shapes, how far can you distort and still see the bones of the form?

This was from a photograph of the abandoned roof of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. I kept playing with the light, and at one point was planning on adding to it with figures…

This was painted by deconstructing an image Picasso made in the mid 1930’s of Dora Meir, finding the edges of the deconstruction and recreating it in line and form and coloring in a new space.

I found a panoramic video of a Moscow abandoned subway station, and the shapes as I moved the image through its points of view were visual abstract kaleidoscopes.

This was reaching back to a watercolor style I painted with in my teen. This is wet-on-wet oil and playing with the colors and blending the lines and colors into forms was a blast. I held in mind a desert paintingI could remember but no longer have. The original was a giant butterfly sweeping up and across a cliff in the desert. This lost the butterfly, kept the trappings of desert and then went where it needed to.
