9th Street Delmar, Sunset #2, 2008

I learned in oils.

The brightness and clarity of the color in that medium made acrylics dull and unable to reflect the color and light in anywhere near the same way. Except – except if you underpaint in pure primaries and secondaries using an airbrush, just getting colors for tones close enough.

The acrylic layered on top reflects the light through, and then the iridescent ball-shapes of the air-brushed bright color reflects it straight back.

And you has oil-like color from acrylics.
